WORLD RIGHTS

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Royal Colonel, 4th Battalion, The Rifles, is pictured visiting New Normandy Barracks, Aldershot, Hampshire to meet military families and present medals to Riflemen.

4 RIFLES are a Specialised Infantry Battalion in the British Army, with responsibility for the Middle East and North Africa. 4 RIFLES trains, advises, assists, mentors and accompanies the soldiers of overseas partners, helping them to develop their own capability and prevent crisis.

4 RIFLES consists of around 270 soldiers, mainly officers and NCOs, with Riflemen drawn from across the other battalions of The Rifles.

Since The Rifles formed in 2007, 4 RIFLES has deployed on five tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, together with numerous other operations and training missions worldwide. The new Spec Inf role has seen the high number of operations and tasks continue, with eight deployments since October 17.

Members of A Company will receive the OSM Afghanistan. A Company have been deployed as part of Operation TORAL delivering training and mentoring to members of the Afghan Security Forces. This tour of duty has lasted for five months and the training will be continued by R (Representative) Company, also from 4th Battalion, The Rifles, who have deployed to Afghanistan in the last two weeks.

A number of the soldiers and officers on parade will receive the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Major Pemberton, who has completed 30 years of service at Regimental Duty (service at a Battalion), will receive a Bar to his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, which has been awarded for an additional 10 years of
service. Major Pemberton was a Regimental Serjeant Major on the formation of The Rifles having enlisted as a Rifleman in The Royal Green Jackets, with the presentation of this award being made more special as it is his last day with 4 RIFLES.
